NEWSLETTER JULY 2013

Well, now that we have some decent (ish) weather I’m sure we are all back on board our horses and trying to make the most of our time. Personally just having these light nights makes the world of difference.

So…what has been happening and what is happening?

Horse Trials: Gill Johanssen achieved a brilliant result in the HT 80 with Ifon finishing in first place on her dressage score of 27! Impressive! Huge congratulations Gill. This means that Gill has qualigied for the Championships which will be held at Swalcliffe Park, near Banbury in Oxfordshire on the first weekend in August. If any of you are free to support Gill we can get together and go cheering!! http://www.swalcliffeparkequestrian.co.uk
Gaynor also came a very credible 12th with a dressage score of 35 and a double clear. Jemma Gillighan and Lucy Davies also put forward strong performances. Sian Hinkins sadly had to withdraw for the xc phase but her support was very much appreciated. Jasmin Jones also competed HC in the 100 cms ( due to a vaccination mishap…remember to get things checked!)

Trec:

Nikki Anderson, Julia Line, Claire Griffiths, Laura Owen and Rachel Owen attended a Trec Training Weekend at Brandy House in Knighton in May. It was lots of fun. The weekend involved arriving and settling in with horses on the Friday night, Saturday was a day of practicing the trec obstacles in the arena and then Sunday was an orienteering exercise which was good and helped with skills. Good company, food, wine (except for the red!) and horsey activities made it a brill weekend for all involved!

The girls are very keen and get up to all sorts of Trec adventures so if you would like to join in and find out more please get in touch with Kay or Maggie and we can link you in to the training and happenings!

What a fantastic Spring!! And now we roll into summer and want you to know all the things we have planned!

Lot’s of our members like the opportunity to get together and combine lessons in a few different disciplines. During August there are a host of local shows going on. Dolfor RC has sponsored 2 classes; one at Guilsfield (8th August) and one at Berriew (24th August).
There will be a trophy at both of these shows to the HIGHEST PLACED DRC member in the equitation class. Please support them and have a bit of fun in the process. If anyone is interested in having a show preparation lesson then please contact Kay.

In September we are hoping to host a horseback treasure hunt followed by a bit of a social. Date and venue to be confirmed but watch this space!

Finally, we have decided to spend some of our DRC savings on getting a set of show jumps which will be available fro lessons and also to move around different venues for practice on grass and in different situations. We are hopeful that these will be an asset to our club and that you will all be able to make use of them at one time or another.
