Thank you for choosing to join Dolfor Riding Club. We hope that we will be able to provide you with a full and varied year of activities, that you can enjoy with like minded people. Over the course of the year, we have already planned in lesson series, specific discipline training, social events and Summer Camp. Please contact Maggie on 01938 552976 if you would like a free copy of our annual planner, although additional activities are regularly added to our schedule. Notification of these is given by email, Facebook and text.

The first of these will be our major fund raiser for the year: a SALSA night at Montgomery Town Hall on Saturday March 4th.  Everyone is welcome, friends and family and no interest in horses required!  Tickets are £10 and include food and music.  A bar is also available.  I do hope that we will see you there! Believe it or not, Spring IS approaching, and with it, a new season of competition. We know that some of you very much enjoy representing the club at Area events and, as a club, we have been successful and qualified through to the Championships in several disciplines last year.

However, Area competitions require a great deal of commitment from a ground team as well as the riders so this year we have put some thought into how we can ensure that the club is best able to manage and support riders at Area level. It is important that you check your horses eligibility, vaccinations and passport details prior to entry, and ideally provide this information to our Area Entry Secretary, Polly Owen, as early in the year as possible. If you wish to compete for the club at Area level, you will need to come to a pre event team training session. This will give the Chef d’Equipe opportunity to go through the competition format and meet with those attending on the day. Remember, this person is giving up their time so that you can compete. Whenever we put a team forward to Area, we are also required to have a number of ‘helpers’ on the day, even though we are aware that these people are sometimes surplus to requirements, the team can be eliminated if the helpers do not register at morning briefing. So, if you cannot provide a helper on the day you are competing, you will be expected to BE a helper (or provide one) at another AREA event during the year.


We are also stating that to represent club at Area you need to attend the pre competition training AND at least one other training or social event during the year. A club is exactly that, a body of people who support each other in a shared interest and we feel it is important to promote this aspect of your membership.


SO… the first Area competitions are INTERMEDIATE INDOOR SHOW JUMPING at Reeseheath on March 9th ( entries due by February 14th!) and COMBINED TRAINING at Tushingham on Monday 17th April.

January Lessons 2017

Good morning Everyone!

Hope you have had a great Christmas and you are looking forward to a healthy and horsey 2017! Hopefully you have all returned your membership forms and raring for another GREAT year with DRC.

We have some exciting plans for the year ahead and we are kicking off with some training through January to get everyone well prepared for the competition season. We have TUESDAY EVENINGS in January booked at Radfords with Janet Green instructing on the 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st between 7 pm and 9 pm. 2 groups available. Please let Kay know as soon as possible as lack of numbers will mean cancellation 😦

Dear All
On December 10th and 11th we will be holding a DRESSAGE IMPROVEMENT weekend at the indoor school at Brithdir Equestrian, Guilsfield. You will be able to have 4, 1 hour ( shared with one other) person sessions over Saturday and Sunday , which will hopefully allow you to really see improvement by the end of the weekend. Nikki Shipp is instructing and we will hope to have some video sessions incorporated into the weekend to help us analyse our way of riding and the horses way of going. Nikki will help you to look at the way you ride your test and some tricks of the trade to help pick up this vital few marks.
Lunch of hot soup and rolls will be provided ( or similar) and we can perhaps arrange some evening pub outing if anyone was interested. Cost £100 for the weekend.

DRESSAGE WEEKEND 10th and 11th December 2016

A chance to really improve you and your horses way of going with an hours session (shared with one other) both morning and afternoon on both days. Instructor Nikki Shipp is excellent and working with you and your horses capabilities to really get the best results. This intense weekend is an excellent opportunity to make a leap forward with your flat work progress. Open to everyone from very novice to experienced, but LIMITED places so please email kay @bettwslifehouse.org.uk to reserve your space. COST: £100 for the weekend.


Set of 3 Lessons with Janet Green at Radfords

Starting on the 8th November, 15th November and 22nd November.

£15 per session ( no concessions this time sorry…indoor school comes at a price!) It is possible to just book in for one, two or all three.

1st lesson starting at 6.30 pm.  Can be flat work or jumping.

AGM October 2016

Many thanks to everyone who attended the AGM at Chruchstoke on Monday. We had a good turnout and the new committee was nominated and agreed. CHAIR: Kay Jones, SECRETARY: Maggie Evans, TREASURER: Rachel Jones in interim ( we need to find a replacement for this very busy lady) Others on committee: Jane Tanner, Laura Pell, Gaynor Williams, Nikki Anderson, Polly Owen, Eluned Tibbot. Honor Arden is retiring off the committee due to commitments. She will be HUGELY missed for her contributions to organisation and the newsletter which she did such a fabulous job on. From this point on, news and events will be shared via Facebook, the web page and text round robins. Hoping to see you all at some RC event very soon!
